Shot in the arm for seaside regeneration

The government is investing £16 million to regenerate 20 seaside towns, including historic works. Each town will receive up to £2.6 million from the Coastal Communities fund.

The Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) hopes the the cash injection will help projects to deliver almost 4,000 jobs, support 250 new business start-ups and create more than 1,500 apprenticeships and 400 volunteering opportunities.

Sunderland City Council has received £2 million to support the regeneration of the historic seafront area of Seaburn and create a new mixed-use leisure-led development.
