Heritage groups challenge wind farms

English Heritage and the National Trust have joined forces in a landmark high court bid to challenge proposals for a wind farm in Northamptonshire.

It follows a successful appeal to the planning inspector after East Northamptonshire Council turned down West Coast Energy’s original application, fearing the development will impact Lyveden New Bield Elizabethan estate and other listed buildings and monuments.

English Heritage and the National Trust want the high court to rule that planners must consider the impact of wind farms on protected buildings and the heritage landscape.
